Help: No place to attach top plate
I am adding two walls (one 4ft and one 5.5 ft wall) to construct a small storeroom in a corner of a commercial building with a suspended ceiling. I will be attaching the 2 new walls perpendicullary to the 2 existing walls in the corner. Since the top plate will not be attached to anything (due to suspended ceiling), do you think the 2 small wall additions will be sturdy?

It's a pretty sturdy setup all on its own. But you would be surprised what just a couple of screws into the grid out near the corner will do. Admittedly, it may not be kosher, but my office had a few places done like that. Oops, did I just admit that?

Truly, though, the drywall will lock it in place well enough.

If you use a double top plate and overlap them, they won't go anywhere. You would also screw the corner stud together as an added connection. As Willie said, the drywall will add to the walls rigidity.
