I do a lot of radius work and was wondering if these types of planes work well or if they are just a waste of time. The base will curve both ways btwhttps://www.google.com/search?q=compass+plane&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari#miuv=2

MT, your link didn't work but is this the plane you are talking about? If so I have seen Roy Underhill use it a few times and it does work well, at least for him it did. I would love to find one of those.

PM Keith, he should know, he has just about every type of plane made, I believe. I do know I would love to have one.

The only down side I saw to them is when you are planing the radius and get to the bottom where the grain changes direction, you have to plane from the other side. When finishing out the bottom cut it can get a little tricky.

Wow, you wouldn't have a link to that plane would you. It would be nice if you could have blades that would cut a profile used in a plane like that. From what I have seen you can cut convex with that plane also, if I am not mistaken. That could have been a different plane but it was built like that one.
