Hanging bifolding doors on carpet

I'm helping my son rehang bi-folding doors in a laundry room. At my suggestion we removed the doors before the carpet was laid in the family room. Now we can't get the doors back on because the carpet is in the doorway. Should we remove some of the carpet in order to put the part down to hold the doors? Do we cut the bottom of the doors off? Help!!! Mom's don't know everything.

Sometimes the pivot hardware for the door hinges must be re-elevated on a block of wood secured to the subfloor through the carpet. The blocks should have been installed before the carpet was installed so the carpet could be cut-around the blocks. Then also the doors may have to be cut off. In some cases cutting the bottom off the door will screw up the hinge mounting.

You should find yourself a local handyman. Find one that has done this before and has tools.

Hanging bifolding doors on carpet

I have a pair of wood bifold doors that drag on the carpeting. My plan was to remove the doors, remove the metal pins in the bottom and take off about 1/4 inch with a circular saw. Reinstall the metal pins and put the doors back in place. Haven't done it yet though.
If someone has a better idea, I'd sure like to know it too.

Edited to add: Oops, guess I'm a slow typer this morning.

..............and be careful if you cut the bottoms off the doors. Some bifolds are hollow-core & you can cut too much of the actual wood off the door and then you can't reinstall the pin hardware. Usually doors have about 2 inches of actual wood around the perimeter.

The "pin hardware" is installed in the interior-rail at the bottom of a hollow core door but if too much rail is removed you still have the interior-stile that should run the distance bottom to top. Is this not true?

Your bottom pivot pin doesn't have any adjustment for up -down? If not, after cutting that 1/4" off the door, remember to drill the pin hole the same amount so the pin goes all the way back in.

Yeah I second the above comment, usually you can adjust the height, easiest way to do it might be to measure height you need and adjust door before you put it in, if it's already out, less awkward.

If you cut a quarter inch off the bottom of the door and then reinstall it, it will travel at the same height from the floor that it did before. You need to also shim up the bracket that carries the bottom pivot by the same amount.
