Handy man elcue

Hello everyone,

I try to do most of the work around my house, and once in awhile I run into a snag and not sure what to do.

I am installing a new stove vent hood with a glass bottom, after cutting the hole in the ceiling I discovered a ceiling joist in the way of where my ventilation path is.
I cannot move the vent because this will cause to be off center.

I need some advice!
Thanks

Box in the opening, then cut out the piece of joist that's in the way.
