I'm building a gate that will replace two smaller ones. I want to see if the new dimensions will be ok.
Currently I have two: 24" X 63" with butt joints reinforced with 3 dowels at each joint. It's made out of redwood 2X6. It has redwood lattice in the center.
Modified gate would be 48X63. Redwood 2x6 with lattice in the middle. I'd like to use butt splices with 3 dowels again but would consider suggestions. I've thought about biscuit or screw reinforcements.
What do you think? Is the width a bit much? Should I just keep the two smaller gates? Are the dowels best for reinforcement?
Finally, I'd like the wider gate because it's easier to get stuff through without unlocking the other gate.
Thanks in advance.
