Garden Window Plans

I would like to build a garden window for my kitchen window and would like some advice on locating plans or some ideas on how to begin and the type of materials that I should use.

A garden window is something you typically install not build, although I suppose it's possible.

Why would you want to build this?

I would just like to see if I can do it and save a few bucks. I have easy and inexpensive access to glass.

Could you just make one, sure.
If you want a water and air leak free window consider a new constrution garden window.
That way you will end up with a double pane maintance free window.

But that's not the real point. I want to learn how to make one. I have easy access to double pane glass, aluminum extrusions and vinyl/pvc extrusions.

I already knew that I could buy one at Lowes when I woke up this morning.

not trying to rain on your parade ....

you may want to check with you building department first to find out what your energy code requirements are. there are specific requirements for glazing for insulation values, as well as solar heat gain. I do not know where you are or your code requirements.

how may this affect you? some areas require an inspection should you decide to sell your home and this may cause an issue.

if you want to build your own and cannot find plans go to Lowes and measure one of theirs. take a few photos on your cell phone.
