Now, the piece of furniture I enjoy the most.

I bought a 50" plasma TV back in Nov 09. I wanted to hang it on a basement wall, run electric from a box below and get it centered. Problem was the STUDS were not centered.

I looked all over the internet for a functional piece of furniture for this TV so I could have it where I wanted it. All I found was pieces that fixed half my problems. I wanted the TV centered and to see no wires. I also wanted to move my internet modem and router to this epicenter.

I built a hanging entertainment center. I used a large back board 3/4' birch (which I stained cinnamon) and doubled it up. I attached a maple mantle (which I stained ebony) with 2 boxes below it for components. I measured where my studs were and drilled holes in the board which allowed me to span 3 studs with 2-2" lag bolts per stud. I cut a square for the electrical outlet, and hung the wall TV wall mount on the board.

This decorated the wall behind the TV, and allowed all components to be suspended in air with no visible wires.

I need to add pics for you all to see. Anybody else build some cool furniture?

I believe most TV wall mounts will allow the TV to slide laterally a considerable distance. I know for a fact that there are at least some that do.

Studs are where they are - which means they're rarely located ideally for centering a TV, which is precisely the reason these wall mounts are designed to slide. Mount the mount to the studs, then simply shift your TV over until it's centered.

It moved some but not that much, not the one I bought anyway. Besides, I wanted it perfectly centered. I also wanted to float all my components on the wall, which is the reason for the hanging entertainment center. I gotta post pics.
