Question

Free-Standing Deck with Screened Porch Tied into existing Roof

I'm hoping that someone around here might have an answer for me. I'm planning to build a deck (approx 400 sq ft; elevation 102") with a screened porch on it (12' x 19'). I was planning on making it a free-standing deck because it will be off of a cantilevered section of the house. This is where my problem arises......if the deck is "free-standing", is there any way that I can tie the roof of the screened porch into the existing roof over the cantilever? (or is this just an all-around bad idea?)

How much is the cantilever?
Where are you located?
What about ther walls?
Are they going to be tied in?
The roof could overhang maybe with rubber seal to close it against weather

Free-Standing Deck with Screened Porch Tied into existing Roof

How much is the cantilever? - 2'
Where are you located? - northern Virginia
What about ther walls?
Are they going to be tied in? - I wasn't planning on it. I was just going to cut them to fit the siding and seal it with caulk. I've thought about the "floating-roof", but I'm not sure how well something like this would work sitting on top of shingles. Also, the roof of the cantilevered section also overhangs.....so, in order for me to put a roof on the screened porch, I will need to cut it.
