Framing around vertical air return 2'x18" and is 6 ft tall

H had to have aircondition company install a cold air return in the utility room outside the wall. I want to frame around the duct and install drywall. Can I glue (what kind of glue) or do I need to build a wood frame around the duct and drywall to it? Thanks.

frame it and drywall it. for this sorta thing 2 5/8 steel studs are used quite often. it makes for a frame that takes up less space and holds drywall fine. this method is used all hte time in commercial spaces

I had to do this in a rental unit that I owned. Space was limited, so I fastened 1X2 spruce with self tapping metal screws and then nailed the drywall to the spruce.
It worked well and has been without a problem for 15 years.
