Folding stair hyprerextends at bottom rung section

could be a number of things. loose or worn hardware, bottom feet cut incorrectly, unit wrong size to begin with. pictures would help, once you get a few more posts.

Folding stair hyprerextends at bottom rung section

I held the bottom rung section in place with a 16th of an inch gap between it and the second section. Then tightened the hardware very firmly. Stair no longer hyper extends like it did and seems to show that it is approx. 3 inches too short which is how much the person convinces me to cut off of the railings I had just sized and "routed" for them. I just used a 1 by 4 and made ralings for the treads and drilled holes where necessary. I think not only was the hardware loose but holes allow for too much play and the hinges get out of whack. I want to make two new railings and swap out hardware and treads. Probably take an additional 30 minutes to an hour.
