Fireplace Wood Front

Hi, not sure what it is called, but we currently have a brick fireplace with a wood mantel. I am thinking to add wood trim around it, either painted white, or stained.

My question is, how do you attach surrounding wood to the brick?

Here is something similar that shows what I was thinking to do.

I've always attached it to the outside walls not to the brick.
There pretty much a free standing unit.

Liquid nails and attaching to the wall would work.

thanks for the reply. I was thinking we could save the $500+ since we already have the mantle, and just build the left and right pillars under it somehow. I'll have to think about it some more

You can make that whole thing you showed in that picture for way less then $100.00.

that's what I was thinking :) put a base flat board and create a design on top of it by cutting angles like you would doing wainscoting on a bottom wall.
Could even buy 2 fluted pieces for left and right.

You can do what ever you want to if it looks goo to you.
What's shown in that picture looks like they use base cap moulding for the false recesed trim.

adhesives, dowel and nails, tapcons, or masonary anchors

would realy be nice if you post a pic of what you have now.

Here is a picture I took in January before I finished painting the top half.
I also don't have as many things on the mantel as I did then.
I hope you can see this, only because the website I posted it to (one I own/run) I tagged it as hidden and hoping you can only see it here :)
