Figureing lap siding?
I wondering how do you figure lap siding for a 12x18 shed with 8' walls and a 4/12 gable roof, with gable in walls. I wont to use 1x8x12' siding.

Figure out the sq. ft. of the walls, width times height. For a gable figure W x H divided by 2. Add all of the numbers up for total sq. ft. then deduct any large openings.
1X8 would be a 6” exposure so take the total sq. ft. and multiply by 2 then add 10% for waste and that will be how many lf of siding you need (+/- a fuzz).

kwik is right.. the only thing with if your siding up into a gable end, youll have to account for some extra waste

Which is why I don’t deduct for most windows unless there large like a patio slider or a wall of glass. I usually will have some returns at the end but that’s better than running short. Keep the siding “clean” and returns aren’t an issue.

yah gable ends are always a bugger for waste.... thats the killer with the newer hardie plank which has the log stamped on teh top edge... the old stuff you could just flip over and use as a starter on the other side
