Family room wood panel ceiling nectar stuff on the knots?

As title, just noticed that we have this nectar stuff on the wood panel ceiling in our family room.. is this normal? Any health concern, and how can we remove it and prevent it to grow back? Thanks!

It is not nectar, it is Pine sap/amber. Just sand it off and restain again. No health problems from it.

After you have sanded and stained it again, sealing it with shellac before whatever you use as a clear coat might help keep more sap from oozing. The shellac can darken and yellow the finish slightly though.

Is it caused by moisture? It is the basement of the house so just wondering whether moisture has anything to do with this... thanks!

No, natural process of the wood. Happens more around knots. Nothing to worry about, just follow what sdsester stated and move on to the next task at hand.

when framing houses with spf lumber that sticky sap stuff is as sticky as nails, sometimes no nails are needed! joke, but it does stick to everything and oozes out over time.

So if I just wipe it off, would it come back again in the near future? Usually how long does it take for the sap to ooze again? This is the first time that I have seen this in the basement for the last 10 years....

It may or may not. You have to scrape it off, it will not just wipe off.
