Exterrior faux stone to foundation

How heavy are the stones? I would say the mesh should be fastened through foam into concrete with something like Con sert concrete screws, as the foam has no strength. If the stones are real stone, and not lightweight, I would recommend fastening an angle iron, at ground level, with expansion bolts, to start from to carry more of the weight, I would also try a masonry supply for more info.
