Exterior french doors install?

I'm wanting to install 2 french doors, one from our master BR and another off from out kitchen nook.

Do french doors require expert installation? Because I'd like to try and tackle it myself even though I'm not much of a carpenter but can figure out about anything.

Both of the rooms I want to install them at already have a sliding glass doors installed. One of the sliding glass doors are normal/standard size, the other [kitchen nook] is about 72"W X 95" H. I've seen where people would install a standard size french door in that large of an opening and then add a rectangular window up above the doors to give it a larger appearance and probably to save money on having to buy a larger/custom size french door. Are these size doors expensive?

Anyways, any help or links to videos of installs are welcomed.

Welcome, French doors or sliding doors require precise leveling and a great deal of common sense.

If you do your research, read the directions carefully and use commonsense-you should be able to install one.

The door opening that is to big should be re sized to fit the door . These are going to be hard enough to install for a beginner, with out adding a window build job on top of it.

Expensive is a relative thing.Expect $1000. or so.
Anderson is my favorite,Pella I charge $150 Extra and offer no guarantee.
To many call backs and unhappy customers.

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?

Thanks Gary, I just ordered your recommended Door book
I bought it online used. The new price was unreasonable.

I like the "Doors" book cover pic showing that cool door bench and also that cool old drill with a Jacobs chuck. I have an old Craftsman all metal drill similar to the one on the cover. The O.P. should also note the Templaco full length hinge template leaning against the wall. I recommend the O.P. use one of these. They also are available for other hinge sizes & styles.

The second book I would recommend is the Gary Katz "...Hanging Doors" book:

I got my copy when it first came out in 2002 at Gary's all day seminar on "Hanging Doors"

I would recommend to the O.P. that he first get both of these books then after reading them if he is still hopefully enthusiastic then buy a cheapo hollow core door from HD or LOWE'S (~20-30$) to practice on before spending the big bucks.
Let us know how things work out.
