Exterior door molding question.

What should I use to build a casing around this door?

The door and frame is new, the siding is old. The door frame and siding dont align perfect, one is higher than the other.

Thanks for your advice!

Either cedar, or PVC. Unless you have a burning desire to minimize man-made material in your house, and intend on painting the trim, pvc would probably be your best option. If you intend to stain to match the jambs/door, cedar (clear).
If the door jamb sits below the siding, rip strips of material the same thickness as the difference to extend the jamb to the siding surface (coplaner). If the jamb projects beyond the siding surface, either plane/sand the jamb down, or add strips to the back outside edge of the trim to align the two surfaces.

How about dadoing the edge of the trim so that it sits flat on both planes. It looks like theres a roof over the door so maybe this isn't a concern but how do you flash the trim against t1-11 siding.
