Drilling Floor joist

What is the code for the size of hole drilled thru two overlapped joists directly above a support wall? I have two 2x8 joist overlapping directly above the support wall below, and I need to drill a 3-1/2" hole to move the drain line from a toilet from one joist space over to the next joist space (I can't go below the joists either). Can this be done, or is it against code?

That would be a great question for framers (carpenters)

We don't know what code you are under, since you failed to post location. Best is to check with your local building inspector.

No, you can't drill above a bearing point.

To get more info, I'm moving your post to a different board.

Maximum; 1/3 depth of joist-- leaving 2" of solid wood above and below the hole; http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/ic...9_5_par030.htm

Check locally with AHJ, though a State code would follow one or both the "I" codes stated.

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
