door knob replacement

I was going to replace the door kobs on all of my interior doors. However, the old door knobs do not have a face plate. The old latch simply inserts into a hole that is flush with the the door and has a metal ring around it to cover the rest of the hole. There is not much wood left around this hole, so I a reluctant to try to chisel it out. Has anyone ever seen door knob replacements for this configuration? I can email a picture if that would help. Thanks.

Buy the regular door knobs and drill out the door for the new ones.

yes they sell replacements for existing, but the new ones last longer.

Got a picture. May get some more suggestion if we can see what you have to work with.

framer5,
If you have a web site that sells replacements for this type of configuration, can you please provide it? Thanks.

door knob replacement

Those latches just pop right out once the knobs removed.
Just put a screw driver through the hole where the knob was and pull on both ends of the driver toward the end of the door.
All the door knobs I've seen come with a metal ring to space that over sized hole to the new catch.
Just going to have to insert the new latch, hold it straight and use a pencil to mark out where the wood needs to be removed with a chisle.

They still make those. My mom and pop lumber company has them. if you can't find one. Just a lite chisel.

They all seem to have face plates that need to be embedded in the door (thus the need to chisel). I was trying to avoid that and just replace with the same type of latch shown in photo. I can't find a replacement that looks like that anywhere.

They sell these at Home Depot and Lowes. Both Kwikset and Schlage. They have the face plate in the package but the instructions explain how to pop off the faceplate and add the round trim ring.

+1,
and the round ring will be in the package. I know I've thrown a ton of them away.

Should be able to get the same latch set up these days but I wouldn't worry about chiseling it out for the new ones either.

Yeah. That's a Kwikset privacy lock with a round-drive latchbolt. Still make them to fit that same hole.
