Do I need to sink my posts into the ground for my play area?

I want to build a little play area in the back yard. I am thinking about something like 4 feet by 6 feet with some extensions. I live in Montreal so it gets cold and windy in the winter. Can I get away without sinking the posts into the ground? Can I make an above ground structure and then anchor it into the ground somehow (maybe like a tent)?

I really do not want to sink posts for many reasons not the least of which I have no idea how to do it and am told it can get quite complicated. Any suggestions? is there anything i can make above ground without fear of it tipping in the winter or with jumping kids on it?

What are you making?
What's, " something like 4 feet by 6 feet with some extensions"
Is this a swing set or jungle gym type structure?
How high?
How large are the extensions and how far off the ground?
I wouldn't build it the way you propose.
If you don't know how to build it safely, don't build it. Buy a kit and follow the instructions.

If there is a possibility of the kids tipping over the play set then you must find a way to anchor it.

Using a post hole digger to make a hole and adding some concrete mix to the hole is not all that difficult.

This is for an anchor --

Let us know how big the structure is and someone will suggest an anchoring method that will work for you..----Mike----
