determining opening in load bearing wall

I want to open up an archway on a load bearing wall. I am certain it is a load bearing wall because we built the home. The current opening is 6 foot but I would like to open it as much as 10 foot. Is that too far to open a load bearing wall without support? The height of the ceiling is 8 foot and the double wood beam support is 16" wide.

If this is possible to do, then I have a follow up question as to how to make a soft rounded archway to look right in this opening.

Thanks,
Ron Gaeg
