Deck material

I am having a deck built. My installer is asking if I want to use pressure treated lumber or cedar. He is recommending cedar because it doesn't warp but it is more expensive. What has been your experiences with wood and what do you recommend.

use pressure treated for the framing its stronger than cedar. for the actual decking you can go with cedar, it looks better.. either way as long as the wood is installed before the sun gets a chance to dry out the wood twisting isnt really a issue.

I have a cedar deck on the front of the house. I have found this to be quite stable and free from warping and cupping, but it is covered and not subject to the full forces of sun and rain.

What do you plan for finish? I have recently tried one of those thick and textured deck paints on a yard barn ramp. I am very much satisfied with how it looks and performs, but don't yet have any first-hand experience on durability. If you plan to go with something like that, I would probably opt for PT boards.

It's all going to depend upon YOUR environment. Regional differences can have different effects on different materials.

Cedar is better and will look better for sure.
