custom range hood

hi ,I am interested in building a custom range hood.I will be using a wood base and plan on stuccoing the outside . I do not quite know how to get started, or how to construct the underside to fit the hood POWERPACK .any plans out there or suggestions?

I would suggest first determining the ventilation you will need (how much cfm for the cooking you are doing) It is easier and cheaper to buy the liner (stainless steel non- combusitble protection for bottom of custom hood) and insert (the part that goes in the liner with the blower, grease filters, lights, etc.) and build your hood around them then to make a hood you like and have to have a custom liner and insert made special.

how do you plan to ventilate it ?

i owuld get the powerpack first so you know what you have to frame in for and what size ducting it needs. i wood make it out of 3/4 plywood for the most part. to stucco it get the mesh the stucco guys use with the metal mesh attatched and staple it to the plywood and stucco over it.

i would probably use the 3/4 just on the bottom where the vent is mounted..i would probably use something much lighter for the skin to save weight..it only really needs a backing for the stucco...


and frame with 2x4's, etc.

You would first get the exhaust unit and build the casing around it.
