Custom Office Desk U Shape Materail?

I'm trying to design and build a custom made U shape office desk. It'll be 108"x108"x108" 30"W top. (I need the top surface to be strong and dent/scratch resistant for building computers on as well as a surface for writing ect.)

I'm looking for somthing farely cheap. Currently in my work office they use what looks to be 3/4" Particle board with a laminate finish on top and use 14"x30"x4" x 1/4" thick angle that gets bolted to the wall and supports the desk. I don't really need to many drawers or anything just want a flat surface.

What wood/mdf ect should I use that will look modern but not kill the budget?

It'll need to be a couple thicknesses of 3/4" material. MDF is very common, but can sag if not supported somehow. Plywood would also work.

You might consider melamine. It is the white-faced particle board. Probably $20/sheet.

The other option would be laminate, which runs about $50/sheet in addition to the MDF sheets and contact cement.

The box stores have pre-made counters you can order or buy off the shelf. For a durable surface, you can't do it yourself for less money.
