I'm planning on building a gable dormer with a complete pediment, and I was reading a post on a different forum, where a fellow was talking about the problem crowns have going from a rake to a horizontal. The problem, the guy says, is the molding on the rake must be elongated to maintain profile or to form a correct mitre joint. I also found this topic discussed in this book: http://books.google.com/books?id=lov...diment&f=false
I'd like to make these pediments correct. Is there any way around having to have a custom crown made for the rakes (without making it look like I fudged it)? Or is it not a big deal for a molding shop to do this? Do places sell rake crowns (to match certain slopes)?
If any of you guys have any experience with trimming a pediment, I'd appreciate your advice.
