Creating a pass through in a wall
 

Hello everyone, I am cutting a pass through in a wall (bedroom to bedroom). The house was built in the 60's, the walls are made of cheap wood paneling. I have cut most of it away but I'm not sure of the proper way to install added wood (studs?) around the frame of the opening. Any advice is appreciated.

Is this a load bearing wall you just cut into?

Even for a small (2 foot) opening, you'll need to put additional (jack studs) around your opening, not to mention a header 2 x 8 or 2 x 10 if your pass thru is more than 4 feet.

Search for "framing a window opening" or "framing a doorway" for load bearing wall. Steps are the same except for not putting in the door or window.
