Craftsman auto hammer

hello,

craftsman has a neat tool out now, i beleive its called "auto hammer". has anyone had any experience using this tool? i was thinking of getting it for my friend for Christmas, because he sustained a permanent injury to his left hand, and its very difficult for him to hold a nail, and hammer it in, because of it. i thought this would be the perfect gift for him. im just wondering how well it works. does it nail, like a 2'-3' nail well? i mean, i hope it dont take like 5 minutes to drive a common size nail, does it?

I do not know the answer to your question, but I think he would love the fact that you put that thought into it. Personally, I have not tried it, and I thought it looked a bit 'gimmicky' for myself, but, it might be the perfect gift for someone that is limited for that hammering motion. At worst, he could always take it back for something else, but always know that the thought came from you.

I have one. I have a vision issue which makes it very hard for me to drive a nail by hand without bending it over - so this was my primary modivation to get one. I have a arsenal of air nailers for heavier work.

It's quite capable for nails, say, under 2" or so. It's really handy in tight spaces where there is not room to swing a hammer. If used within it's limitations and intended usage model - it works well.

...thanks for the replies. sounds like the auto hammer would be good for light work. probably perfect for molding and trim, and also as mentioned, for those hard to get at places, where you cant swing a regular hammer. thanks again!

happy holidays!
