Going to be installing some shelves in the pantry and my kids closets in our new build. Need some help picking out the best materials. For the shelves I am planning to do mdf with a poplar edge band. Just don't know what to use for the cleats. Was thinking about 1x2's but they are so hard to find ones that are straight. I guess I could rip down some 1x6 or 1x8. Any thoughts or experience?
if your using mdf for the shelves, just use mdf for the band. your going to need stock for cleat stock , rip up twice as much cleat stock from mdf and there the edge band.. only difference the edge band can get a routed edge to dress it up a little bit
Might want to make a pattern, drill holes and use pins in the pantry if the shelves are not to wide. This would allow you to adjust the shelves as needed.
