Cherry flooring?

I am gutting my upper floor. The floors are out 2 and a half inches. So I'm am tearing up the subfloor to sister joist to existing. Any way the subfloor on it is 7/8 thick and various widths. I took some to the table saw to cut it up and I thought if its cherry I may keep it and buy a planner and clean it all up and maybey redo my kitchen. I don't know if it's cherry tho. The sawdust is a dark orangey brown color and has no distinctive smell. Does anyone know what type of wood it may be. It's a very old house. And the grain is fairly tight not like oak any way. Thanks!

It could well be cherry---If you live in a cherry growing area--and the house is old enough to have been built from local ungraded materials---

Post your location--the age of the house--and a picture---and someone here will ID the wood for you.

Just a note---If you are in cherry country--finding a local mill and having them make up some flooring for you might be a lot cheaper than you think---

For a subfloor, doubtful it would be cherry. My guess would be old growth fir.

Take a piece up and plain it on the surface and lets have a look.
Whatever it is....it's probably worth saving.

I'm buying a planer today. Brand new rigid 13 in 15 amp motor. The guy got it as a gift and now just wants it gone but I sanded some down and also took some pics of the rough and the saw dust. Hope this helps. I am in southern Ontario. It is 90 percent hardwood bush in my area. The coniferous areas are about 3 hours north or west of me. The house is probably 100 years old. But was moved to the current location and joined to another house in the 50's. Thanks for all the help so far everyone.

The first photo looks like cedar, the last one like cypress or maybe clear fir....really hard to tell...........but not cherry. Really nice grain........... well worth keeping.

Definitely not cherry---

Vintage wood is well worth saving----

Use it somewhere, maybe as a ceiling? You will need to have t&g milled into it to make it work well as flooring as it will be awfully squeaky otherwise.
