Cased Opening

We have a small, tri-level and wanted to trim out 2 openings- one that leads to the living room (viewed from the entry) and one to the adjacent dining room. We recently replaced all of our trim and plan to eventually add crown molding to those 2 rooms as well, to give them a more polished look. Is it necessary to have cased openings for all of the rooms on that level then? There are 2 more openings, leading to the kitchen. Will it look funny/unfinished if we don't put trim around them?

Cased Opening

hard to say without being in the room, but cased opening usually "dress up" a room and complement crown moulding. But, in reality, it's all personal preference. What's nice for one, may not be for another...

When you have guests over, ask them what they think...

Cased Opening

the house we moved into last year had all drywall corners on the doorways and the window openings. as i go through each room redoing it i am adding jams and casing on all windows and door openings. they looked so plain without any trim. i also added crown like you plan to do. made everything look so much nicer and way above the builder grade stuff that was here when we moved in. had pics of before and after couldnt find them.
