Question

Carpeted stair protection

We just had a toilet installed in our basement. The stair carpeting leading down to the basement is light green as is our family room that shows thru an open staircase. We have visitors that do not take their shoes off just to go to a basement. Is there a tread or some kind of protection i can put over these carpeted stairs to protect them from getting dirty so fast? -baba
