A dead bolt lock?
The bolt portion goes into (through) a trim plate into a void space in the door frame.

The graveyard?

Seriously, a metal plate mounted on the jamb is the most common.

It goes in a door.
When thrown, the bolt enters the jamb to lock the door closed.

The rectangular strike plate goes on the door jamb with a hole driled behind it, and corners of hole squared. Maybe this picture will help http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=dead+b...t:429,r:9,s:20
