Cant remove old door knob...?
Hello everyone,
I am having a difficult time trying to remove an old door knob. After removing four screws is still does not budge. Ive tried to go at it with pliers but still cant get the thing off. Here are some pictures, Front knob, I tried to remove the metal plate where there appears to be a hole underneath. Im not sure what this hole is for. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...4ya/image1.jpg Rear of the knob where i removed the two screws. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...4ya/image2.jpg Side plate where i removed two screws. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...4ya/image3.jpg I removed a cap the door knob had and this is what it looked like inside. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...4ya/image4.jpg Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
That's a square shaft set---there should be a set screw in the side if the door knob ---

I looked all around the side of the knob, I don't see any screws.

Any luck, yet?
If it went it it'll come out - looks like it's just so painted over and rusted into place it's being stubborn. Coat that sucker with wd40 . . .personally, though, Id' take the lazy easy more fun route and just sledge that sucker out using the squared post a tapping point. |

Hacksaw the knob off. At least you won't destroy the door that way.

Some of those old knobs were spring loaded, will the knob push in? If it will maybe there is a clip on the square stock.
Have you tried taking the two screws out on the other side of the door yet? |

I agree with Mike (post #2).
Have you looked under the knob. There should be a small hole with a tiny screw recessed inside. |
Thanks, i was able to pry it loose using a pair of pliers.
