can a window frame box warp so it breaks the glass?
i was wondering if it possible that a window frame box warps to that extent that it breaks the window. i have seen quite extreme examples of how much a little piece of lumber warps over a very short time period.
if yes, does it make sense to kerf the back of each side of the frame with a few half inch incisions, like is advised to do with baseboard, to prevent warping?
thanks

i don't have any pictures, this is a hypothesis. i've noticed that door and window jambs have kerfing grooves for this reason, i guess. so i was thinking why not put them in the window frame box that connects the window to the studs for precaution.

There there for a differant reason. It's so the back side does not make fill contact and case the wood to stand off. Look at a piece of base board molding, same thing.
There is suppost to be a gap between the window frame and the rough framing if not it can bow the window frame if it's to tight.

1/2" to 3/8"
You really need to bite the bullet and get someone that knows what there doing to come on site to advise you on some of the things your trying to do.
Almost everything I've seen does not look like it going to end up being a good result when it's all said and done.
You keep using the wrong materials, Installing things wrong, trying to reinvent the wheel.
Your going to a lot of work and trying to save money but how much are you going to save having to pull it all out later and have someone else redo it?

i love it when people get the impression that they are getting an accurate picture based on someone's online descriptions...

I've seen your pictures and read your questions. People make suggestions and you do not take them. I want to see you come out with the best results possible so it a one time deal.
No offence meant.

some of us like to experiment and blaze trails of their own rather than merely follow. if you make a mistake, you redo.

depending on where this glass will go the amount of play with the glass will vary.. ive done commercial jobs where we couldnt get custom interior doors with glass in them as spec'd on the blueprints, so ive had to cut out the door and install the glass on site. typically 1/4 less both lenght and width works. i install a perimeter trim on one side of the opening first.. then a bead of glazers puddy, then close the glass in on the other side with the same trim detail. the puddy will allow the glass to move yet still keep it sealed
as for what joe is stating i agree. there are several proffesionals who do this for a living, we offer our expertise so that you dont have to waste your time and money.. money wasted over and over adds up.. that can be the differance of completing another project on your house. ive had apprentices that dont listen to how to do things and continue to do it.. their reward .. the ability to look for a new job to waste someone elses money until they start to listen
