I believe Creeper is correct....on dryer screws....they stick into the pipe and end up catching lint.....and adding to the problem.

Foil tape....

In my area (California, that state that everyone 'seems' to think has too many rules) have to use screws on single wall water heater and FAH vents....if you use B-Vent...screws not required (sections lock together).
Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there.

it must vary by region then because i have a canadian building code 6 ft from me and it clearly states no more than 2 screws per joint

Obviously depends on location: California Mechanical Code 504.3.1 "... Ducts for exhausting clothes dryers shall not be connected or installed with sheet metal screws or other fasteners that will obstruct the flow. ..."
