Last year bought a mantle made from an old barn joist for our new stone fireplace. It measures 4"x7"x6' roughly and coming from an old barn I assumed that the wood be well aged would not twist on me. Well after only I season I guess the heat of the fireplace has gotten to it as it now has about 2" of twist in it. I guess my plan would be to clamp bars on the ends, wet it down and force a countertwist for several days. Just wondering first if you think that will work or second if there is an easier/better way to do it? Thanks for any help.
