I have just purchased an oven that is about 30" wide, 20"deep and 22" high. I would like to build a cabinet to mount my gas burners (cooking stove) in the top of the cabinet and then put the oven under the stove.
The top of the oven gets hot to the touch, uncomfortably hot. I am concerned about putting the oven into an enclosed area made of wood. I was thinking of doing the following things to mitigate/eliminate fire hazard:
1. Covering the interior of the oven shelf with (what I call) fireproof sheetrock.
2. Installing a fan or two in the rear to draw heat out of the area so that the temp does not build up.
Gas or electric oven?? Gas ovens usually vent somewhere at the top, which is likely what you feel. I doubt that is it hot enough to start a fire, but it could damage things like formica, etc. You probably need an alternate means to vent the oven to the outside.
