Cabinet space above kitchen stove. What's normal?

I have a '62 house, and included a CAD drawing of my kitchen stove area.

My wife and I want to put a microwave above the stove, but they're typically around 16" tall and if I put one of those in there it's going to hang below the bottom cabinets by 2" and leave only 14" of room between the microwave and stove. That doesn't seem like a lot of room, especially to use the back burners.

I think I have to shorten the cabinet above the stove so it's more than 30" above it. What distance is normal between the top of the stove, and the bottom of the cabinet above? Thanks

Stove clearance

Your clearance may be OK if you have a stove with front controls, but to match local code and allow your fan to vent properly, you might want to tweak the cabinets. I have only 15.5" clearance but front controls. It works fine but new cabinets are in the making.
FYI in my neighborhood adding the microwave also required a dedicated circuit upgrade, but I left the old wire in the wall for a future receptacle when I redo the cabinets.
