Cabinet Crown Molding

I want to put crown molding on my kitchen cabinets, however i am running into a situation that i dont know what i should do.
I have 3 cabinets next to each other with a clearance of about 12in, at one end of the cabinets i have a drop(soffit which is not movable) in my kitichen ceiling which comes to the top of that cabinet. it sits about 5-7in in on the cabinet. should i extend the crown only to the soffit and have those 5-7in with no crown, or should i cut the crown to extend past the soffit with the bottom half of the crown being used.
looking for advice
