building a vocal recording booth

Hey,
Im building a vocal recording booth out of an old cupboard and im having trouble removing the shelf - its got a nail every inch the entire way around the cupboard and they have been driven into the wood and filled with putty so im interested to know if there is a certain way that i can extract the nails with out destroying a drill bit? (thats the only method i can think of?)

If you don't want to save the shelf---cut it out and wiggle the remnants off the nails---then pull the nails right through the wood

There are all sorts of nail pullers available that dig into the wood --google search 'cats paw nail puller'

If they are finishing nails, sounds like they are, pull them thru from inside. No damage to outside and putty may stay in holes. Grab the nail close to wood with end nippers and rock the nail thru, may take two grabs, and rock perpindicular to line of nails. Rock with the line and when nail pops out, your knuckles slam into sharp nails. Hmmm, wear leather gloves.
