Building a Thomas Train Bed

So I decided to build a Thomas Train bed for my son, who, like many boys his age, loooooves Thomas the train. Got my design inspiration from a train bed design on instructables.com, hopefully a lot simpler to make.

I started with the half cylinder on the top. I used a jigsaw and an ultra simple jig for cutting circles. It consists of a long strip of MDF, a screw and a 1/4" hole. The screw fix the saw on one side and I used a dowel pin to lock it in place, which makes it easy to unlock too.

Here's how the half pipe look like:

Made some progress with the top. If I were to do it again, I'd use MDF for the arc - my jig saw blade kept getting bent outward during the cut, so I ended up using router instead.

Coming along nice. I see you are using pocket holes. I love them. I have 2 Kreg jigs and use them all the time.

Building a Thomas Train Bed

After months of delay due to traveling, family and being a procrastinator, I finally got back to the train bed project. Didn't take much photo along the way, just the near finished version:

Do not take to long to build it or you'll end up having to use the lumber to make a futon.
