Building a support for a peninsula

I need advice. I want to extend a new Silestone counter to create an "L" shaped peninsula. The peninsula will be 22"wide by 40" long. I have a piece of 24" X 90" X 3/4" sheet refrigerator panel [matches the cabinets] that I will use to construct the peninsula "box" [similar to a table base] to be attached to the existing cabinet and a wall. I plan to use 2X2s to create 4 legs to support the box.
What details must I be aware of and what are the pitfalls?
What is the proper way to attach the box to the cabinet and to the wall?
Should the legs sit inside the box?
What is the proper way to support the legs.
How much smaller than the countertop should the box be? [Measurments]

The new cabinets do not have mitred corners so we want this box to mimic the style of the cabinets.

It's been a while since I posted and it's nice to be back.

Depend on the shape. Are you building it with toe kicks to match the cabinets?
