Building a short span handrail

I have not laid out the exact measurements yet. I have two handrail that will need to be at least three feet long. They will be spaced on each side of a door 38 inches apart. My biggest concern is mounting a 4x4 post onto concrete. How much side to side force can a 4x4 post 34 inches high withstand? Was going too mount the post with an outside collar. I am open to suggestion on how to mount the post into the concrete. The rail is on the inside of a garage. The top edge of the rail will be mounted into the wall. I want too surface mount the post on a 4 inch garage slab. Can not create a trip hazard

Got a picture of where you want to build this?
A hand rail has to be able to withstand 200 lbs. of side pressure to pass code.

Handrail on the right is to be removed, grip bar on the left is also to be removed. The stairs are staying. I am open to suggestions on this job. Want to stay in wood, metal is too expensive

It looks you might be able to use the mounting screws from the rail that is already in place. I can't tell how it's mounted but you may be able to retro fit it somehow. Or, if the stairs are solid enough , and anchored to the concrete, you could attach your post to them.

Another thing, if I use 4x4 posts what type of wood should I use. I was going to use a light stain to finish, or leave bare. I was thinking popular. What type of wood should I use for the handrail itself, if I just go with a 2x 3 or something.
