Building a deck, what size 2bys should i use?


It's a l shape 28/13 by 20/8, I would like to use 2x8's but worry about the weight ? Should i use 2x10's , also shape around a above ground pool

don't know about gurus ...... LOL

here is the link to the American Wood Council's "Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide." it is based upon the code requirements of the 2009 International Residential Code, which may or may not apply to you case. A check with your local building department will provide you with your code requirements.

Some local building departments have their own "guidelines" for deck construction. again a check with them will help you out greatly.

deck codes have come about because of deck failures which not only costs money, but often leads to serious injuries and even dead. I have read that deck failures are one of the leading causes of accidental death in the home.

You may want to edit your profile to include your location, town, state. many answers to questions you may have are based upon location.
