Building a deck on an inside corner

I am constructing a deck on the back of my house. I will be placing the ledger on the long wall, and the patio door is on the other wall. Do I need to pull off the siding underneath the patio door and mount the end joist directly to the house as well, or can I leave a small gap between the end joist and the siding (an inch or less?) and the leave that siding intact?

The correct way is to pull or cut the siding so the ledger and the end joist can be fastened to the house. plus it should be flashed.
if you have wood shingle siding it will be easier to cut the siding a 1/4" higher then the thickness of the joist and decking combined. check for nails remove if need be and install flashing.
then fasten ledger and joist to the house, bring down flashing to the top of the above and then install all your teco's.

Thanks for the reply, Bob. I figured that was going to be the answer. I also purchased some vinyl j-channel to terminate the siding above the ledger and joist. This is recommended as well, yes? Any other tips and tricks you can give me?

Now we know that you have vinyl siding its best to remove the pieces .this way you will be able to install the flashing properly behind the felt, then build your deck, install your decking then reinstall your siding. don't for get to flash under the slider. I like to keep my decks at least 5" below the door, if you have a driving rain or snow drifts they will not spill into the house when you open the slide. that's just my pet pieve. any other questions just post them. someone here will be glade to help you out and give there input also Good luck BOB
