Building a 60x40 mirror frame

Can it be done? Hubby says NO. (he is NOT a carpenter)
I'd like to re-hang a 60X40 bathroom mirror. You know..those BLAH contractor mirrors they slap up when ya have a house built. Its Ginormous and so ugly. I'd like to build a frame for it. Not around it..but I'd like to build a frame with the mirror inside it. Does it sound terribly ridiculous?
Thanks...

Yes it can be done by making a rabbit in the wood frame to except the mirror and then drop the mirror in place and either add clips to hold the mirror in place or put a bead of clear silicone caulk on the back of the mirror to hold it in place.

Building a 60x40 mirror frame

It's easier to build a frame over the existing mirror without removing it

I agree with Mrgins; likely fairly heavy piece of glass. Don't forget to paint the side of the wood frame flat black to reduce reflection of the underside in the mirror.

Cut the rabbet loose and caulk the gap between it and the face of the mirror. If you put it tight against the face of the mirror, the vibration of nailing it on will crack the mirror
