build my own custom interior door

The door opening in the basement office is not standard at 75 1/4" high and 34 1/4" wide. I'd like to build a door for it with a frosted plastic window (covering most of the area) and hang it on sliding door hardware. How can I simply build this door?

How thick does it need to be?
How heavy can it be?

About an inch thick. Should be pretty light as I'm using hardware that's meant for a aluminum sliding door

If you have a table saw, I can walk you through building a door. It might cost more than a store bought.--Mike---

I only have a miter saw, skilsaw, reciprocating saw and multi tool. If possible I'd like to build this on the super cheap. If I could take the two 1/2" x 8' x 4' plywood boards, fasten them together, cut them to size and border them with firring strips and hang it on the track, I would simply do that, but I want the plastic window insert and I don't know have a clue how to do that.

You may be able to find what you need on the shelf. Use select 1X4 boards instead of furring strips. They may be straight when you pick them out but they won't stay that way. Once you have your frame built you can use stop & window molding to set your panel.

buy a 34 inch wide hollow core door (under $25 in my area) cut to height re infill bottom with solid wood. cut opening for window infill with solid wood use outside corner moulding to frame in the cut out to hide imperfections that are in your hole cut out. put window in with half round or glass stop (glazing bead) on both sides to hold in place.
in my area material cost for door and trim under $50
