Brick walls

Remodeling a old bathroom. There is some old ugly panel on the walls with brick behind it. I want to gut it out and replace it with drywall, but can't figure out the best way to attach the drywall. Is there some way I can attach it to the brick itself or do I have yo frame it out.

Brick walls

Best way is to frame it out, brick will be a pain to attach anything to it and get it all flat.

Brick walls

Is it actually a true solid brick wall , or just a brick veneer with studs behind it? Why function did the brick have? Part of an old masonry chimney, or something decorative?

If it's solid, like a chimney, it's best to fir it out as Joe says. If it's a brick veneer, get dusty and chisel that thing out!
