Beam to floor joist connection?
I attached a picture to easily explain. How do I attach a beam to the floor joist securely. Header that the beam will carry spans over 4 joist. Header will carry about 1/4 of the load up top(another floor plus osb roof and asphalt shingles) Cannot connect to bottom floor of basement because it would block a basement window. Thanks

Beam to floor joist connection?
I would check your local building codes.
My understanding is that the total weight has to be transferred to the foundation. If a window does not allow direct vertical transfer, then a header needs to be placed over the window and supported by a post or column either side and attached mechanically to the foundation with all the joints be strapped Mike.
