Beadboard Ceiling

Hello everyone.

I live in a 1960's farmhouse that has mostly plaster walls and ceilings. In a office area I am wanting to install beadboard to the ceiling. My questions are.......
Can I nail to plaster? If not, I am guessing I could use floor adhesive to attatch the beadboard to the ceiling.
I am planning on useing 8' planks that are tounge and groove. The only problem I can forsee is I would have to wait for each board to dry before I hammer another board into place.

If any one has ever had this issue or can give me some advise, I sure could use it.

Ok I have seen this done before, as the walls were plaster they applied ¾’’ plywood with liquid nails and attached it to the walls and also screwed the plywood to the wall and then used a nail gun to put up the beadboard.

I did something similar in my home. Epson is basically correct - but you want to make certain to screw either the sheets of 3/4" plywood or furring strips into the ceiling joists. Altogether it will be heavy so you need to be sure it is very well secured.

how wide is the room and how long is the beadboard? Can't you go perpendicular to the joists and nail drictly into them?
I'd use 1x3 firring strips every 16" depending on the thickness of the beadboard

I'd go with the 1"x4" furring screwed/nailed to the joists, then use a brad nailer or stapler to fasten the beadboard to the the strips. The plywood idea is nice, but kind of costly in comparison....

Thanks for all the ideas. The room is about 12' x 10'. I wasn't sure if I could punch thru the plaster with a brad gun and hit the joists. I plan on doing the ceiling kind of like laying a floor and making my seams off set each other every 4 or 5 boards.
I am kind of liking the Cape Cod look, because my office area is a tan and brown with a chair rail. Dark brown under the chair rail. Darker color wood flooring going on the floor later on. A lot of windows in the office that are painted a gloss white along with the chair rail. So I am figureing on white for the beadboard as well.
Was going to stain it a mahogany, but with the dark flooring going in....naaaaa.

Maybe going 12" OC would be better.
