bathroom shower

I am framing a free standing wall of my new shower. I am pressed for space. I am using Kerdi for my waterproofing on the wall and floor. My question is. My wall will be 8' tall and 5' long with a 1' corner at the end of the wall. Can I rip the 2 x 4 down to 2.5" then add the 1/2" sheetrock on each wall? I plan on blocking between studs every 2' for support.

Sheetrock has no place in a wet area. Ripping 2x4's would not be my choice.

I wouldn't, but if you do why would you rip 2x4s when you can buy 2x3s? Also, use 1/2" cement board, not drywall. Good luck.

Whoops! Just noticed the KERDI mention. Drywall is okay in that case.
